James Earns OVC Weekly Honor

Murray State freshman pitcher Hannah James was acknowledged for her outstanding performances over the past week, earning recognition from the Ohio Valley Conference on Monday. She was named Co-OVC Pitcher of the Week, sharing the honor with Haley Thogmartin from Southeast Missouri State.
The stat line for James over the past week featured a perfect 3-0 record with a 1.33 ERA, while tossing two complete games and recording 20 strikeouts in 21.1 innings at the Madeira Beach Invitational.
James pitched a complete game shutout in Friday's 5-0 win against Butler. Over her seven innings of work, she allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out four Bulldog batters. She also appeared for 1.1 innings to seal a victory against Delaware later that evening, striking out another pair of batters without surrendering a run or giving up a hit. She continued her impressive weekend on Saturday against South Dakota, tossing six innings and surrendering just three runs. She struck out four batters on the way to her second win in as many days. Finally, she capped off the outstanding weekend dealing another complete game against Ball State on Sunday. During her seven innings against the Cardinals, she allowed just one earned run while striking out ten batters to become the fifth pitcher in Murray State history to record 10 strikeouts in a game. She would earn the win to complete a perfect 3-0 weekend. In addition to the aforementioned stats above, she carried a 2.86 SO/BB ratio through her 21.1 innings in the circle.
"This is an incredible honor for Hannah and very well-deserved. Her work over the past two weekends has been top notch, including capping off this past weekend's last win with 10 strikeouts. Hopefully, this is the first of many OVC honors for Hannah," says coach Kara Amundson.
James is the fourth pitcher to receive this honor for Murray State, as well as becoming the first Racer freshman to receive the distinction. The last MSU pitcher to receive the award was Mason Robinson, who was named OVC Pitcher of the Week on May 1, 2017.
