Watts Leads Racers At Kiawah Island Classic

The Murray State women's golf team began their spring season Sunday at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic. Billed as the largest field of any college event, the Racers had a spot in 28^th place in a field of 43 teams in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

The Racers posted a score of 308 in round one, just behind the 307 by UNC Asheville and the 306 by Lehigh, Charleston Southern and Lipscomb. Coastal Carolina was the team leader at 286, two shots ahead of Delaware. Lehigh's Reagan Jahn was the medalist leader after posting a 4-under-par 68.

Jane Watts had MSU's best score of the day with a 2-over-par 74, which was good for a spot in 54^th place. Linette Holmslykke had a spot in 73^rd place along with teammate Anna Moore as each carded scores of 75. Sarah McDowell was in 207^th place after an 84 and Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria carded a 97. Raeshya Surendran's 76 was good for a spot in 91^st place and was second among the 10 individuals in the event.

Round two is Monday with the final round on Tuesday at Kiawah Island.
