Boone Leads Racers At UNA Spring Classic

Murray State's James Boone is in a spot to grab his first collegiate golf victory Tuesday in the final round of the UNA Spring Classic at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club in Killen, Alabama.

Boone, a first-year Racer from Murray, Kentucky, posted a morning round of 1-under-par 71 and topped it with an afternoon score of 70. Boone's first day total of 141 (3-under) saw him move from seventh place into a three-way share of in fourth place behind medalist leader Aaron Jackson of host North Alabama who had scores of 69-67=136 (8-under). Boone, who is in the event as an individual, was tied for the top spot among the 16 solo players in the field.

Austin Knight, Dalton Bagwell and Connor Coombs shared 38th place in the field of 75 players. Knight and Bagwell posted identical scores of 73-76=149, while Coombs carded rounds of 74-75=149. Gabe Wheeler and Avery Edwards shared 52nd place. Wheeler had scores of 76-76=152 and Edwards had scores of 75-77=152.

As a team, the Racers shared 10th place (with Southeastern Louisiana) after the first two rounds on scores of 295-303=598, just ahead of Morehead State (599). Â North Alabama was the leader at 567, seven shots clear of second place Jacksonville State at 574. Belmont was third at 576 and Stetson held down fourth place at 582.
