Racers Build Lead At John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate

The Murray State women's golf squad got off to a great start Sunday with a first round 291 and they'll carry a 10-shot lead into Monday's second round at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Georgia.

In carding a 3-over-par 291, the Racers were 10 shots clear of second place Florida Gulf Coast (301). Oral Robert (302), South Florida (303) and Albany (303) made up the top-5 teams. The Racers were also ahead of fellow Ohio Valley Conference member Jacksonville State who carded a 307 and had a share of seventh place.

OVC scoring leader, Linette Holmslykke posted a 4-under=par 68 for the Racers and held the medalist lead after the first 18 holes, ahead of Caroline Juill of Albany who posted a 70.

Other MSU scores and places included Jane Watts and Sarah McDowell sharing seventh place after each carded a score of 74, and Raeysha Surendran gave the Racers four players in the top-13 with a 75, which was good for a spot in 13th place. Anna Moore was in 71st place after an 84.

The Racers have a pair of players in the event as individuals including Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria in 53rd place after an 81 and Taylor Church in 62nd place after an 82.

The Racers have had success at Eagle's Landing before. In 2018, they placed second with Holmslykke and Puente Rodriguez sharing fifth place. In 2017, the Racers shared the top spot with Eastern Kentucky and Moore finished sixth.

Monday's play has players starting at first and 10th tees starting at 7:30 a.m. CT.
