Home matches against Xavier, Indiana, and Ole Miss highlight the 2019 Murray State women's soccer schedule, announced by MSU head coach Matt Lodge on Thursday.
After hosting Xavier to open the regular season, the Racers will travel to Samford before welcoming Indiana out of the Big Ten Conference to Cutchin Field to conclude the month of August. The first half of September will feature five additional non-conference opponents before the Racers begin Ohio Valley Conference action on September 22nd at home against SIUE. Those last five non-conference matches will include back-to-back road trips to Northern Kentucky and Missouri, before SEC opponent Ole Miss and Arkansas State will journey to Murray for a pair of home matches at Cutchin Field. Finally, the non-conference schedule concludes with a trip to Springfield, Missouri to take on the Bears of Missouri State University.
"I am very excited about the 2019 fall schedule. There is no easy match, and that is the way we want it," said MSU head coach Matt Lodge.
"The opponents on this schedule will teach us some things about our team, and that is what non-conference is all about. It will prepare us for conference play. Opening weekend we host a talented Xavier team, and then travel to play a very good Samford team. We host IU and Ole Miss, which is also very exciting. Having two Power Five opponents coming to Murray speaks volumes of what we have built here at Murray State. I hope Racer Nation shows up in full force," added Lodge.
"We travel to NKU, who is always a very tough team to play, and we travel to Mizzou. They will be athletic and very physical, and we need to be prepared for a fight - and I know we will be. We close out the non-conference schedule with Missouri State and Arkansas State - two well-coached teams who will really test us on both sides of the ball,"Â concluded Lodge.
Murray State's quest to defend their Ohio Valley Conference title will begin on September 22nd, when the Racers host SIUE in the first of three-straight home matches to begin their conference schedule. They will then play away from home in their next four matches before hosting Austin Peay in a Heritage Bank Battle of the Border match on October 20th. The Racers will then conclude the regular season schedule with a trip to Belmont, before one final home match against the Panthers of Eastern Illinois.
