The Murray State baseball program will be hosting Alumni Weekend, April 12-14 when they host Southeast Missouri State.
In addition to the festivities all weekend long, Saturday will be extra special as the team will honor the late former longtime coach Johnny Reagan. Coach Reagan's family and many former players will be there as we unveil his number 36 jersey to be displayed on the left field wall.
During Coach Reagan's time at Murray State, he led the Thoroughbreds to 776 wins in 36 seasons from 1958 to his retirement after the 1993 season. He was a 10-time OVC coach of the year while leading the 'Breds to 11 OVC championships. He was also an alum of Murray State, graduating in 1948, and was a member of the baseball and basketball teams. Coach Reagan was inducted into the Murray State Hall of Fame in 1971 and the OVC Hall of Fame in 1988, one of just 12 people from Murray State.
When the current version of the Murray State baseball team heads out to the field on April 13, they will be wearing throwback Thoroughbred uniforms and will be referred to as the Thoroughbreds throughout the day, the nickname they had been known by through the 2014 season.
All baseball alumni are welcome all weekend long beginning Friday when there will be food and beverages before the game. The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by former Thoroughbred and major league pitching coach Mark Riggins. Riggins graduated from Murray State in 1979 and was part of just three MSU teams to make the NCAA tournament, including the only team to win NCAA tournament games, when they defeated Tulane and New Orleans in 1979.
