Edwards Leads Racers' Charge At The Hermitage

Improving five shots from the first round to the second round, the Murray State men's golf team had a spot in sixth place heading into Tuesday's final round of the Big Blue Intercollegiate at Hermitage Golf Club in Nashville, Tenn.

After a 291 in the morning round, the Racers fired a 286 in the afternoon. MSU's scores of 291-286=577 had them one shot from host Tennessee State (576) who sat in fifth place and just ahead of seventh place Detroit Mercy and Evansville, each at 581. Tennessee Tech (563) is the leader, six shots ahead of second place Wright State (569).

MSU's Avery Edwards jumped from 40th to 15th when he improved from a 74 to a 69 for a 1-over-par 143, while Austin Knight and Gabe Wheeler shared 19th place. Wheeler had scores of 70-74=144 and Knight carded rounds of 73-71=144. Connor Coombs was in 32nd place on scores of 74-72=146 and Justin Wendling was in 56th place on scores of 75-77=152.

MSU's Dalton Bagwell and James Boone are in the field of 86 players as individuals. Bagwell was also in 19th place on scores of 73-71=144 and Boone had scores of 76-77=153 for a spot in 63rd place.

Tennessee Tech's Bryce Beeler, in the event as an individual, was the 36-hole medalist leader on scores of 68-69=137.

Play is being conducted on the Hermitage's President's Reserve course, which plays to a par of 71 and 7,020 yards.

Tuesday's final round will commence at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
