Rain Alters NCAA Championship Tee Time For MSU's Holmslykke
5/18/2019 8:09:00 PM | Women's Golf
Only Mother Nature can slow down Murray State's Linette Holmslykke at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Â
Thunderstorms and heavy rain limited the morning wave of competitors to only nine holes on S
aturday at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship and Holmslykke never hit a shot. By 3 p.m., the day was called a rainout and a round of play was eliminated to make sure the event could stay on schedule.
Â
The tournament committee announced second round action resumes Sunday morning at 10 a.m. with Saturday's morning wave resuming play and the afternoon wave beginning play from the No. 1 and No. 10 tees.
Â
Holmslykke is set for a 10:55 a.m. tee time with the same partners she played with in round one, Virunpat Olankitkunchai of Maryland and Michaela Fletcher of Memphis.
Â
The stroke play portion of the tournament will be shortened from 72 holes to 54 holes. All 24 teams and 12 individuals in the tournament will compete again on Monday, with the pairings for that round being determined by their 36-hole score. The stroke play portion of the championship will culminate with the individual medalist being determined following the 54 holes. The field will then be cut to the top eight teams, which advance to the match play quarterfinals on Monday.
Â
Holmslykke, the first Ohio Valley Conference woman to qualify and play in the NCAA Championship finals carded a 4-over-par 77 yesterday and earned a spot in 27th place in the field of 132 players. She's third among the 12 individual players in the field. The top score was a 4-under-par 69 by Arizona's Bianca Pagdanganan.
Â
Blessings GC is playing to a par of 73 and a length of 6,473 yards.
