Career Round Pushes Holmslykke Into A Share Of 1st Place At NCAA Regional

Murray State's Linette Holmslykke posted a team and Ohio Valley Conference record at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship Tuesday when she carded a 
7-under 65 in the second round to move from 34th place into a share of first place at the Auburn Regional being played at Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Alabama.

Holmslykke, a senior from Vejle, Denmark, played the back-9 first with her teammates who were in 18th place after round one. She made the turn with a 4-under-par 32 and after four pairs to start the front-9, she birdied four of the final six holes for an amazing 65 which vaulted her into a tie for medalist honors as she shares first place with Virunpat Olankitkunchai of Maryland (70-70=140) and Vanderbilt's Auston Kim (70-70=140). Holmslykke has posted scores of 75-65=140.

With Holmslykke leading the way, the Racers set their NCAA record single-round low score with a 298, which was better than the 302 they had twice recorded in each of the last two seasons and they set their best score for the first 36 holes at the NCAA with a score of 610. The Racers (312-298=610) moved from 18th into a tie for 15th place with South Alabama (310-210=610) and Kennesaw State (308-302=610).

MSU's Jane Watts had a spot in 74th place on scores of 60-75=155, while Sarah McDowell was in 82nd place after scores of 78-79=157. Anna Moore had scores of 79-80=159 and Raeshya Surendran was in 86th place after posting scores of 80-79=159.

The Racers have played themselves into the next wave of tee times with Denver and Clemson when the final round gets going Wednesday morning. Surendran will hit the first shot of the final round for the Racers at 9 a.m.

Duke is the overall leader with a total score of 577, with Virginia (579), Florida State (580) and Vanderbilt (580) and East Carolina (586) making up the top-5. With the top-6 teams advancing to the NCAA finals, it will be a pressure packed day with Auburn and Tennessee (589), Maryland (591) and Furman (593) all within striking distance.
MSU's Holmslykke will also have a chance to advance on Wednesday as the top three players not on the top-6 teams also get to play in the next round. Murray State or the OVC has ever had a player advance to the finals. The NCAA finals will be played at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas, May 17-22.
