Racers Rebound At SIUE Event - Knight Surges To Ninth - Murray State University Athletics

The Murray State men's golf team got off to a slow morning start, but rebounded nicely in the afternoon round at the Derek Dolenc Invitational, hosted by SIUE at the Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Illinois.

The Racers carded an uncharacteristic 305 in their first round, but posted a 289 in the second round for a 594 total and a spot in 13^th place. The Racers were tied with Austin Peay and were two shots ahead of Bradley and Southern Utah and they trailed Northern Colorado (591) and Western Illinois (590).

Racer senior Austin Knight was in nine-way ninth place tie on scores of 72-69=141. Knight was chasing 36-hole leader, Jake Vincent of Southern Utah and UT Martin's Tate Chumley each at 137.

Other scores for the Racers and places included Dalton Bagwell in 32^nd place on scores of 76-71=147 and Walker Beck in 67^th place after rounds of 78-75=153. Avery Edwards and Connor Coombs shared 77^th place. Edwards fired scores of 81-74=155 and Coombs had scores of 79-76=155.

James Boone is playing the event as an individual for the Racers and was in 53^rd place (fifth among nine solo players) on scores of 76-74=150.

Fellow Ohio Valley Conference teams UT Martin (563), Tennessee Tech (576) and Belmont (577) were one through three in the standings with Creighton (580) and Missouri State, Drake and Loyola-Chicago sharing fifth place t 582.

Tuesday's final round begins at 8:15 a.m. with a shotgun start.

After first playing Gateway in 2014, the Racers are playing the SIUE event for a sixth-straight season.

Gateway National is playing to a length of 7,092 yards and to a par of 71.
