Racers Battle Butler For Skyhawk Classic Lead

The Murray State men's golf team goes into Tuesday's final round of the UT Martin Skyhawk Classic at Paris Landing State Park three shots off the lead behind Butler.

The Racers carded rounds on Monday of 291-289=580 and were just behind Butler's scores of 295-282=577. UT Martin (582), Bethel (TN) (588) and Pine Bluff (593) made up the top-5.

Murray State has a second team in the event and after rounds of 305-301, it was in a share of seventh place.

MSU's first team was led by Dalton Bagwell who has a spot in third place on scores of 71-71-142 and Avery Edwards was in eighth position on rounds of 71-73=144. Austin Knight and Connor Coombs shared 16^th place. Knight had scores of 76-71=147 and Coombs had 73-74=147. Walker Beck was in 54^th place after carding scores of 76-81=157.

Justin Wendling led the second MSU team with scores of 74-73=147 and a spot in 16^th place, while James Boone was in 21^st place on scores of 75-73=148. Carson Holmes was in 50^th place after rounds of 79-77=156 and John Buchanan and Quinn Eaton shared 54^th place. Buchanan posted scores of 77-80=157 and Eaton 79-78=157.

Since 2008, the Racers have seven runner-up finishes and one win in the Paris Landing event, in 2012 and they have only finished worse than third place once.

Tuesday's final round starts at 8:30 a.m.

Paris Landing State Park is a par-72 layout and is playing 6,685 yards. This course is one of the signature courses of the Tennessee State Park system and is part of the Tennessee Golf Trail.
