MSU Golf Opens Season At Home Monday

The Murray State men's golf team gets the 2019-20 season going on Monday (Sept. 9) when they host the MSU Invitational at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Kentucky.

The event calls for 36 holes of play Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with the final round Tuesday with a 9 a.m. start.

The 2019 event sees several other teams ready for competition including: Alabama A&M, Bethel (TN), Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, Green Bay, IUPUI, John A. Logan, Pine Bluff, Southern Illinois, Southern Indiana, Tennessee State, UT Martin.

The Racers come into this season's home event looking to win it for a third-straight time. MSU has won three of the last four and 11 of the 15 in the history of the event.

MSU's last medalist win in the tournament was in 2013 when Preston French won it with a score of 206. Other Racers to win their home event include: Patrick Newcomb (2011), William Hunt (2010) and Nick Newcomb (2009). The tournament scoring record was set in 2005 by Tennessee Tech's Scott Stallings on scores of 68-63-66=197.
MSU head coach Eddie Hunt begins his 19th season with the Racers and sends two teams into the event. MSU's first team includes seniors Avery Edwards and Austin Knight, Justin Wendling, along with junior Connor Coombs and sophomore Dalton Bagwell. MSU's second team features newcomers John Buchanan, Walker Beck and Carson Holmes with junior Quinn Eaton and sophomore James Boone.

Miller Memorial will play to a par-71 and a length of 6,601 yards.
