Racers Team For Successful SAAC Canned Food Drive

Once again, the various sports teams in Murray State Athletics showed great leadership and commitment in the annual canned food drive organized by the MSU Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

When the effort was totaled, the Racers collected 2,898 canned food items and received another $600 in donations to buy more food for the needy. The goal was to average five cans per student-athlete and the Racers exceeded that goal.

The top five MSU teams in the canned food drive included, football (499), baseball (389), women's golf (367), women's basketball (323) and softball (315).

"Our student-athletes all have had a lot going on this semester and I believe it speaks volumes to the character of our sports teams that they came together to collect cans and donations for our community," said SAAC sponsor and MSU Assistant Track & Field Coach, Kelsey Riggins. "Our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee spearheaded the canned food drive and have shown tremendous leadership this semester with organizing their teammates to reach our goal in can collection."

The Racers have accomplished the mission of positively affecting people in the Murray and Calloway County community just as the fall semester comes to a close this week. Â
