On this Day: Rodgers' Walk-Off Grand Slam Lifts Racers Over Eagles

When talking about the all-time classic games in Murray State softball history, game one against Morehead State on March 26, 2017 will almost always be in the conversation. Behind a complete-game four-hit gem in the circle from Mason Robinson, a solo home run from Brenna Finck, and a walk-off grand slam from Jocelynn Rodgers, the Racers opened the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference campaign in style with a 5-1 victory over the Eagles at Racer Field.
Every run scored in the ballgame was courtesy of a home run, with Morehead State hitting a solo shot in the second before Finck's round-tripper in the fifth and the eventual walk-off blast from Rodgers won the game for Murray State.
With the game even at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Rodgers stepped in for the Racers with the bases loaded and two outs in the frame. After the first two pitches of the at-bat missed the strike zone, Morehead State pitcher Chelsea McManaway worked the count back to even with a strike and an ensuing foul ball. With Rodgers down to her last strike, the senior from Cypress, California sent the 2-2 offering sailing over the wall in left center for a walk-off grand slam to seal a 5-1 victory for Murray State in the 2017 OVC opener.
Rodgers is also responsible for the only other walk-off grand slam in program history, which came in a 6-4 victory over Eastern Illinois on March 31, 2014 during her freshman season.
