Murray State baseball standouts Jordan Cozart and Brock Anderson have each been named one of college baseball's Top 50 senior hitters in the nation by D1baseball.com. Cozart is ranked 17th while Anderson is ranked 33rd.
The rankings were broken down into three categories: Plate Discipline, Hit Ability, and Game Power and combined them to calculate an Analytics Score. Plate Discipline is a measure of how well a batter controls the strike zone. Hit Ability simply measures a batter's ability to flat-out hit and reach base while Game Power is straightforward: did the player produce extra base hits, getting to the power he may show in batting practice.
Cozart's top ranked category was his hitting ability with a score of 80.3, which was the 11th best score among seniors. He also had a game power score of 82.2 which put him 12th overall in that category. Cozart finished the year hitting .417 with five home runs and 19 RBI.
For Anderson, it was all about his power as his game power score of 93.0 was tied for third-highest among seniors. He concluded the season with eight home runs, third-most in the country, and 23 RBI, 11th-most in the nation.
The rankings are based on the four weeks of statistics from the 2020 season. They are computed with an adjustment to account for park effects of the most extreme hitter and pitcher friendly parks, as well as an adjustment for a team's strength of schedule.
