2-Minute Drill: Behind The Scenes Edition – Justin Parks
4/28/2020 3:44:00 PM | General
Racer Sports Properties general manager Justin Parks joins Parker Griffith on the latest "Behind The Scenes Edition" of "2-Minute Drill" for an inside look at his job and experiences. In addition to the above video, check out below as we take off the timer and give Justin three more questions in a GoRacers.com exclusive, "2-Minute Drill: Overtime"
Overtime With Justin Parks
1. What is your first memory of sport?
The first year the Grizzlies were in a Memphis. I went to a game against the Lakers and this when they played at The Pyramid. I was there with my dad and we were in the rafters, we had season tickets. That whole season is really my first memory, but specifically one moment stuck out. The late, great Kobe Bryant, couple seconds left on the clock, top of the key against Shane Battier. He gives his patented left-to-right crossover and he hits a fade away to win the game. I still remember it like it was yesterday, just the deafening silence there at the old Pyramid.
2. Who is someone that has been a mentor to you in your career?
There's a guy by the name of Mike Clary who is the former director of athletics at Rhodes College, now he is the head women's golf coach. He just taught me to do everything with integrity. When he first instilled that into me, I had no idea I would be working in sponsorships, but it really gives tremendous value to the work that I do now. Just always having integrity and doing things the right way.
3. Did you have any odd jobs in high school or college?
I did. In college, my first job was working as a ramp agent for American Airlines. I did everything from load bags to anti-ice and de-ice planes. There was a whole 40-foot catapult above the wing with bungees and snow, it was wild.
