Looking back to just the second year of the program, it is safe to say the 2011 Murray State softball team celebrated Senior Day in style when they put up 35 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Tennessee State on April 30, 2011. With victories of 16-0 and 19-0 over the Tigers, the Racers turned in a stellar team effort across the board, but saw an extra spark out of the five seniors on the roster on this historic day in MSU softball history.
The doubleheader saw home runs from each of the four seniors in the batting order with Jenna Bradley, Lauren Buch, Stephanie Mattocks, and Taylor Wilson each going deep on the day, while senior pitcher Kristen Broadway also tossed a scoreless inning in the circle to close out the second game of the afternoon.
The 19 runs in game two stood as a program single-game record until February 24, 2018 when the Racers put up 21 runs in a 21-0 five-inning rout of Tennessee Tech in a nonconference contest in Troy, Alabama. However, the 19-0 victory from 2011 does still stand as the Murray State single-game record for most runs scored in a conference contest. Additionally, the five round-trippers in the second game of that remarkable day in 2011 remains the Racers' single-game home run record.
The Racers went on to earn their second-straight OVC Tournament berth, but were eliminated by UT Martin on the second day of the tournament. The 2011 team finished with a 24-28 overall record that included a 13-15 mark against conference opponents.
