RacerDave's History Lesson - Canaan's Amazing First Half At APSU in 2012
9/18/2020 8:24:00 AM | Men's Basketball
In episode three of Racer Dave's History Lessons on Murray State Athletics, the program looks back at an amazing game by MSU hall of famer, Isaiah Canaan in 2012.
It's hard to believe the 2020-21 season of Racer men's basketball season marks nine years since the Racers had that amazing 23-0 start to the 2011-12 season. Maybe you had the chance to be part of seven consecutive sellouts at the CFSB Center, or saw the game at The Bank when Dick Vitale made his in-person visit for the Racers against on Saint Mary's on ESPN.

Did you attend the MSU game at Austin Peay on the night of Jan. 7, 2012 at The Dunn Center in Clarksville, Tennessee?
The Racers were 15-0 and the hottest team in the nation and racing into the national rankings when Isaiah Canaan went on a 3-point spree that was simply amazing. On his way to being the OVC Player of the Year and All-America pick, Canaan hit seven consecutive 3-point baskets in the first half. He just couldn't miss. In a season that was already drawing national attention to Murray, Kentucky, Canaan's first half only added to the idea that something special was happening.
The Racers won the game 87-75 to stay undefeated at 16-0.
Canaan had 35 points on 10-of-15 from the field (7-of-8 from three) and 8-of-8 from the free throw line to go with five assists.
Canaan's hot start with 7-of-7 from three-point range caused a good look at the MSU record book. The top spot is still held down by James Singleton who hit 8-of-8 against Eastern Illinois in 2003. He still stands as MSU's best game for single-game 3-point percentage.
