3/1/2022 6:07:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The Murray State junior had quite the day on Tuesday as he was also named the OVC Player of the Year
Years from now, Racer junior KJ Williams will look at this day in 2022 and smile.
In the morning, he was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and in the afternoon, he was named the Oscar Robertson National Player of the
Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.
The Murray State forward was also named to the honor on Feb. 15 and becomes the first player in OVC history to win the award twice in a season.
Also named the OVC Player of the Week, he won the award for the fifth time in the 2021-22 season. In helping the Racers become just the sixth team in OVC history to win the regular season title undefeated (18-0), Williams scored his third game of 30 points or more with 30 as the Racers defeated Belmont in the home final. In Saturday's win at Southeast Missouri, Williams scored 23 points as the Racers completed their 18-0 OVC season. In the two games, Williams shot 55 percent from the field (22-of-40) and 50 percent from the 3-point line (5-of-10). He hit all four of his free throws and pulled down 13 rebounds.
