The Murray State women's golf team began play at the Bama Beach Bash with a spot in 10th place after the first day of competition at Gulf Shores Golf Club in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Payton Carter was MSU's top player in the first 18 holes of the 54-hole event with a spot in 17th place in the field of 81 players. Her score of 76 meant a share of 17th place with
Madison Le (Arlington), Agatha Alesson (Little Rock) and Jacqueline Klemm (North Alabama). They're chasing medalist leader, Chantal Dueringer (ULM) who is six shots ahead after a 2-under-par 70.
Murray State's Eliza Mae Kho leads the field with 15 pars in the opening day, while Alma Garcia has a share of the lead with four birdies.
The Racers' 313 in round one has them ahead of Georgia State (314) and Arlington (317) and trailing Memphis and Colorado State (312). ULM and Oral Roberts share the lead at 303.
The Racers begin play Monday morning from the first hole at 8:09 a.m. Central Time, with Troy and UAB as playing partners.
