Tee Time – Racers Meet The Standard GC In Bellarmine Event

The Racers 10th event of the 2022-23 season means a chance to play on one of the oldest courses in the Commonwealth of Kentucky
The Murray State men's golf team competes at the Ernie Denham Classic (April 3-4), hosted by Bellarmine at the Standard Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
The 54-hole event is played Monday and Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Eastern Time each day.
The Racers are coming off the Missouri State Intercollegiate where Jakob Wellman and Jay Nimmo led the Racers with 50th place finishes on scores of 228. MSU is 10th in the Missouri Valley Conference with a scoring average of 299.0, while Valparaiso leads the league at 290.2.
In a field of 12 teams, the Racers are seeing some teams they've competed against before, including Austin Peay, Belmont, Morehead State and UT Martin. The Racers and Belmont are the only Missouri Valley teams in the field.
The visit to the Standard Club is MSU's first to one of the oldest courses in the nation. The Standard Club was first located in Louisville on South 5th Street, until the 1937 Ohio River Flood. The course was eventually relocated to its current location on highway 22 in 1946. The course had a redesign completed in 2006.
This is the inaugural Ernie Denham Classic, named after former Bellarmine Coach Ernie Denham, who died tragically in a fire in August of 2019. He served as Bellarmine's coach for 17 seasons, with three NCAA National Championship Finals appearances in 2010, 2013, and 2016. Prior to Bellarmine, Denham was the head men's golf coach at the University of Louisville for 12 seasons. Denham was also very instrumental in golf in the Commonwealth with several decades of series in the Kentucky Golf Association and Kentucky Section PGA.
