Lewis Fourth - Racers Seventh at MVC Championship

Murray State's Trey Lewis did just that Monday in round two of the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Coal Valley, Illinois at Oakwood Country Club.

Lewis was one of the biggest movers in the field of 50 competitors when he went front 14th place to fourth with his career-low round of 3-under 68. His score line of 71-68 was good for a 3-under-par 139. Lewis' previous best was a 69 at the EKU Intercollegiate in 2021. Carson Holmes (72-71=143) gave the Racers a pair of players in the top-20 with a spot in 19th place on scores of 72-71=143.

After carding a 289 in round one, the Racers improved with a 285 and had a spot in seventh place (574), ahead of Evansville (582) and behind Southern Illinois (572). MSU's 285 tied their best round of 2022-23, as they carded the same last September at the Grover Page Classic.

Illinois State was the team leader at 552, with Valparaiso (561), Northern Iowa (565), Bradley (570) and Belmont (571) made up the top-5.

Anthony Delisanti of Valparaiso was the medalist leader on scores of 66-64=130.

Tuesday's final round begins at 9:40 a.m. with Kamaren Cunningham hitting the first shot of the day for the Racers.
