The Racers had a spot in 11th place after the first day of competition in Colorado
Playing in likely the toughest field of teams in the fall season, the Murray State women's golf team traversed the Red Sky Golf Club Monday in the first 18 holes of the Golfweek Invitational in Wolcott, Colorado.
The Racers carded a 301 and had a spot in 11th place among 16 teams, ahead of East Tennessee (302), Little Rock (303) and UNCG (303) and chasing Boise State (299), Wofford and Central Arkansas (298).
MSU's Payton Carter had a spot in 19th place in the field of 88 players. Her first round 1-over-par 73 featured a rollercoaster back-9 in which she had an even-par 36 with three birdies and a double-bogey. Carter and the field are chasing ETSU's Alex Crafton who posted a 4-under-par 68.
Murray State freshman Patti Patterson was a shot off Carter's pace with a 75 and was in 25th place.
Pepperdine was the first-round leader with a 285.
The second round at Red Sky begins from the first tee Tuesday as McKenna Stahl hits the first shot of the day for the Racers at 10 a.m. Mountain Time.
The Red Sky GC is playing to a par of 72 and to a length of 6,440 yards.
