Vogel Named Missouri Valley’s Player Of The Week

The redshirt junior led the Racers to a 4-0 week while homering in his last five games.
Drew Vogel was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The redshirt junior played a key role in leading the Racers to a 4-0 week with a midweek win at Ole Miss and a weekend sweep at home over Valparaiso. Vogel slashed a staggering .476/1.286/.500 this week with four home runs, two doubles and a triple. He has now homered in five-straight games and homered to lead off the game in his last three games.
On Wednesday, Vogel propelled his team ahead of the Ole Miss Rebels with a go-ahead grand slam in the top of the 15th inning to give Murray State its first win in Oxford since the 2006 season. The grand slam brought his RBI total for the night to five, giving the shortstop a new single-game career high.
The White House, Tennessee native recorded multi-hit games in all four games this week, including a 4-for-6 performance in the weekend series opener while tallying 12 total RBIs for the week. His four base hits on Friday ties a single-game career high and was the third time this season to record as many hits in a game.
After Vogel's home run on Sunday he became just the second player in program history to hit 20 home runs in a season and is two shy of tying the school record that was set by Wes Cunningham in 2010 (22).
