The Racers’ 37 wins in 2024 are the second-most in program history.
With the win the Racers extend their winning streak to eight games in a row, which is the longest for Murray State this season and tied for the 10th-longest winning streak in program history. The Racers also notched their 37th regular-season win, which is now the second-most single-season wins in program history.
The Racers picked up their 17th Missouri Valley Conference win on Saturday, which is the second-most in a season under head coach Dan Skirka.
Dan Tauken started his day with an RBI knock up the middle to score Drew Vogel for the first run of the game. An RBI double from Parker Estes pushed the lead to 2-0 in the fourth, bringing in Riley Hawthorne to score a run.
The Braves tied it in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run, but Ethan Krizen pushed the Racers back in front with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Three more runs were plated for Murray State in the sixth on a two-run double from Carson Garner and Dan Tauken's second RBI base hit of the day to make it 6-2 through six innings.
An RBI single from Estes and a two-run double off the bat of Dustin Mercer extended the lead to 9-2 before Jonathan Hogart belted a three-run shot to extend the Racers' lead to 10 runs in the seventh. In the bottom half, Bradley cut the lead back to single digits with a solo shot.
Murray State answered back with a four-spot in the eighth to secure the run rule victory. Logan Bland started off the inning with a two-run base hit as a pinch hitter before Hogart turned in an RBI knock to give him four RBIs and Tauken plated a run on sacrifice fly for his third RBI of the game.
Ryan Fender earned his second win of the season, dealing four innings allowing two runs on three hits, one walk and punching out four Braves batters.
All nine Racers in the starting lineup picked up a base hit, with six of them turning in multi-hit performances. Estes and Tauken led the game with three hits apiece. Hogart led the day with four runs driven in and Tauken just behind him with three.
Murray State now awaits its final seeding for the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Tournament, which takes place May 21-25 at Charles H. Braun Stadium in Evansville, Indiana.
