Murray State takes on the Bears for the rubber match at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 4.

The Racers took game one of Friday's doubleheader to open the series with Missouri State, 6-4, at Hammons Field in Springfield, Missouri. The Bears evened up the series and forced the rubber match with a 16-4 run rule win over Murray State in the second game of the day.

The Racers jumped to a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the second after an RBI base hit from Carson Garner and Ethan Krizen's second home run of the season. The Bears added their first run of the series on a fielding error in the second and tied the game with an RBI double in the third.

Krizen picked up his second RBI of the game to give Murray State the lead back with a base hit up the middle in the fourth. The Racers then doubled their run total with a three-spot in the sixth, one of which was scored on an RBI double from Dan Tauken and the next two on a check-swing base hit over the second baseman off the bat of Drew Vogel.

Cade Vernon earned his eighth win of the year after tossing seven innings and tying his career high with nine strikeouts in the outing. The senior allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk. Nathan Holler picked up his seventh save of the season, which is tied for the sixth-most all-time in a single season in Murray State history.

In the second game of Friday's doubleheader, Taylor Howell recorded a 3-3 day with a home run and two runs scored. Garner extended his reached-base streak to nine games while Jonathan Hogart and Krizen both pushed their streaks up to six-straight games.

The Racers face the Bears in the rubber match and series finale on Saturday, May 4 at 2 p.m. CT at Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo.
