Murray State’s Dan Skirka has led the Racers to four-straight 30-win seasons
Murray State Athletics announced an extension of the contract for Racers Baseball head coach Dan Skirka and runs through the 2027 season.
Â
Skirka and the Racers produced their fourth-straight 30-win season this spring for only the second time in program history as they were 37-20 and placed second in the Missouri Valley Conference at 17-10.
Â
"Dan has led the program through a successful three-year stretch, so we could not be more excited to have Coach Skirka and his staff lead our baseball team into the future," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "Coach Skirka has embraced the new resources that we have invested in the program and have used them to bring in top talent, so we cannot wait to see how he continues to build off recent successes to continue and be competitive in the MVC and lead us to a championship."
Â
"I'd like to thank Director of Athletics Nico Yanko and President Bob Jackson for the substantial commitment they have made to Racer Baseball in the past few years," Skirka said. "I am thankful for our players and assistant coaches that have been the reason for our recent success. And lastly, thank you to our outstanding alumni for their continued support. My family and I are looking forward to the future development of our baseball program."
Â
The spring got off to a great start for Skirka and the Racers when they won their first 11 games at home at Johnny Reagan Field and it ended with the Racers taking 11 of their last 13 games in the regular season. The Racers 37 wins is second only to the 40 games that the 1975 team won under Coach Reagan.
Â
Among the top offensive teams in NCAA D-I, the Racers set team records in at-bats (2,006), runs (464), base hits (591), home runs (102) and RBIs (437).
Â
The Racers put seven players on the All-MVC Team including, Drew Vogel, Carson Garner, Cade Vernon, Nathan Holler, Jacob Pennington, Jonathan Hogart and Dustin Mercer.
Â
During his tenure, he has compiled 165 career wins and has notched 30-win seasons over the last four years.
