Scherer Places Fifth At Marion Miley Championship

The Murray State sophomore carded scores of 75-72=147 in the event held at Lexington CC
Murray State sophomore, Ella Scherer, turned in a fifth-place finish Friday at the 78th Marion Miley Memorial Tournament at Lexington (KY) Country Club in a championship field of 39 players.
One of three current Racers in the event, Scherer posted scores of 75-72=147, while Kaitlyn Zieba and Katherine Weir shared 16th. Zieba had rounds of 82-73=155 and Weir 78-77=155.
Murray State's only winner of the Marion Miley title came in 2010, by Megan McKinney.
Scherer's play this week lends momentum to a busy end to July, as she plays next week in the 28th Kentucky Women's Open at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington. She is also playing at the US Amateur qualifier, with MSU head coach Philip Nelson as caddy, at Franklin Bridge Golf Club in Franklin, Tenn.
