Also part of the 2024 class to the Murray State Hall of Fame, Velvet Milkman carved out a 29-year career with the Racers that produced 12 OVC team championships
Add another hall of fame honor to the 29-year career for Murray State women's golf coaching legend, Velvet Milkman.
Already in the 2024 class to the Murray State Hall of Fame, Milkman was named Monday to the next class to the Kentucky Golf Foundation's Hall of Fame Class. Milkman is part of a class of four which also includes Eddie Mudd, Whitney Wade and George Johnson.
The event will be held on Thursday, November 14nd at The Seelbach Hotel in Louisville. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
From the fall of 1993, when she launched the MSU women's golf program, to her retirement in May 2022, Milkman's teams amazed year after year with high-level performances and individual greatness.
When her 29 seasons were finished, Milkman was and still is the all-time leader at Murray State with 12 OVC Championships. Her longevity spanned 22 years between her first title in 1997 and the last in 2019. Her teams won 10 OVC Player of the Year honors among eight different student-athletes.
The Racers also performed at a championship level in the classroom with 35 winners of the OVC Medal of Honor signifying perfect 4.0 GPA's. Milkman's teams produced six student-athletes that were named the top graduate in their field of study at Murray State, one OVC Scholar Athlete Award and the Racers won the OVC Academic Achievement Award four times (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008).
Milkman served for 18 years as senior woman administrator for MSU Athletics and led the department as interim athletics director from July 2018 through February 2019. She was one of the leaders in shaping women's golf at the NCAA level and served a four-year term (2009-12) on the NCAA Women's Golf Committee including two years as chair.
