Patterson Paces Racers at The Velvet Championship

The Velvet Championship honors Murray State’s Hall of Fame Coach Velvet Milkman who launched women’s golf at MSU in 1993
The Murray State women's golf program gets their 31st season of competition going Monday at The Velvet Championship at the Country Club of Paducah in Paducah, Kentucky.
The event marks the second staging of The Velvet, named in honor of Murray State 2024 Hall of Fame selection, Coach Velvet Milkman, who launched MSU women's golf in 1993 and served as head coach for 29 seasons until her retirement in 2022.
Coach Philip Nelson takes the Racers into his third season with two teams in the field of 14 schools in a 54-hole competition of 36 holes of play Monday and the final round Tuesday. The action begins each day at 8:30 a.m.
The Velvet, also brings in five fellow Missouri Valley Conference squads to Paducah including, Belmont, Evansville, Indiana State, Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois.
