The junior received weekly honors for her two-goal performance in a road win over Grambling State.
Junior forward Mary Hardy was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Women's Soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
"Very well deserved for Mary," head coach Matt Lodge said. "She is so consistent with being a threat whenever she is on the field. She is so dangerous in the air and her deep runs from midfield."
Hardy scored two goals in Sunday's road victory over Grambling State, pushing her to 17 career goals and four goals this season. The junior's four goals through eight matches exceeds her two goals through eight matches in 2023, while her freshman year she scored no goals until the ninth match.
Her first goal came in the 53rd minute in the form of a header on a corner service from Kate Stordy. 23 minutes later, the Racers went on a breakaway towards their attacking end with Hardy leading the charge. The counterattack started when Reagan Tate intercepted a pass from a Grambling player before dishing a pass to a free-running Hailey Cole who had nothing but open space. Cole sent the ball towards Chloe Barnthouse, who delivered a perfect cross for Hardy to net her own brace from point-blank range.
Hardy is one goal shy of tying her 2023 total and four goals from tying her personal single-season record that was set in 2022. The Ballwin, Missouri native now has two career multi-goal matches, both of which have occurred in the last three matches for the Racers.
"She is just warming up," Lodge added. "She is motivated to take her run of form into MVC play."
Hardy and the Racers return to the pitch to open conference play against the Evansville Purple Aces on Sunday, September 22. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville, Indiana.
