The Murray State Baseball team travels to Cape Girardeau, Missouri to face the Western Illinois Leathernecks in a doubleheader on Friday to open the 2025 season. Murray State takes on the Leathernecks after weather forced the cancellation of the opening weekend series against South Dakota State at Johnny Reagan Field.

Murray State enters the 2025 campaign following a 37-20 record in 2024, including a 17-10 record in Missouri Valley Conference play.

Third Baseman Carson Garner returns for MSU following earning All-MVC Second Team 2024. Out of Franklin, Tennessee, he batted .306 and swatted 15 home runs last season as a junior.

Another Racer that earned conference recognition in 2024 is senior outfielder Dustin Mercer who was named to the All-MVC Defensive Team. Mercer, out of Weddington, North Carolina, posted a .986 fielding percentage in 2024, while hitting .294 with 10 home runs.

Western Illinois finished 2024 with a 13-37 record and posted an 8-19 record in their first season in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Racers lead the all time series with the Leathernecks 5-1.
