The Murray State Racers (11-20, 2-9 MVC) will host the Belmont Bruins (24-10, 8-3 MVC) for their series finale at Racer Field in Murray, Ky.
After winning just one game in their series against the Missouri State Bears, Murray State is in 11th place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings. Belmont remains third in the MVC despite dropping two of three to first-place Southern Illinois. Â
Despite losing the first two games of the series, the Racers defeated Missouri State in dramatic fashion in the series finale. Freshman catcher Emerson McKinnins delivered the winning run in the eighth inning with an RBI single to salvage a win on the weekend. Â
Katy Huels had another strong weekend at the plate, going 3-4 twice and adding an RBI in the Racers' winning effort on Friday. The freshman leads the team with a .302 batting average and 29 hits with seven extra-base hits, four of which are triples. Another freshman, Karlye Graber added her fourth win in the season by allowing no earned run in three and two-thirds innings as a reliever. Â
Erin Lackey leads the Racers with 19 RBI on 19 hits. The senior is hitting .250 with five doubles and one home run, a grand slam against Nicholls on March 2 at the Ole Miss Classic. Â
After winning their first six MVC contests, the Bruins have fallen in three of their last five. In their series against Southern Illinois, the Bruins' lone win came as a 5-0 victory that saw Maya Johnson pick up her 14th win of the season in the circle. Nicole Hughes continues to be a leader at the plate, batting .347 with 35 hits and 25 RBI.Â
Following their game against the Bruins the Racers will travel to Chicago, Ill. for a series at UIC. The first game is scheduled for Friday, April 4 at 5:00 p.m. CT with games to follow at 2:00 p.m. CT on Saturday and 12:00 p.m. CT on Sunday. Â
