Elmy Powers Racers to Game One Victory

Murray State takes the opening game versus UIC on Kane Elmy's gem.
The Murray State Baseball team, (22-8, 6-4 MVC), defeated the UIC Flames, (8-23, 4-6 MVC) 3-1 Friday evening at Johnny Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky. The Racers have now won seven straight games, matching their longest winning streak of the season.Â
Right hander Kane Elmy provided Murray State with another lights out start, hurling seven innings and allowing just two hits and two walks. The senior improved his record to 4-0 and ERA to 2.73. Elmy now leads the Missouri Valley Conference in ERA.
The other half of the Racers' battery, Will Vierling, made his mark Friday as well. Vierling went 2-4 at the plate including an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning. Defensively, the junior caught two runners stealing including a pick off at first base.
Dom Decker extended his on base streak to 13 games with an RBI double and two walks in four trips to the dish.Â
Dylan Zentko earned the save for MSU. He tossed two no-hit innings with two strikeouts and tied Nic Schutte for the team lead with 35 K's on the year.
The Racers will be back in action Saturday at JRF. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

- Murray State starting pitchers have allowed just two earned runs since Apr. 1, 2025. The staff as a whole has allowed just four earned runs in their last seven games.
- Will Vierling has caught seven runners stealing this season, third in the MVC in that category.Â
- The Racers have now won five straight games at home.
- Dustin Mercer extended his hitting streak to seven games. Mercer has reached base safely in all but one game for Murray State in 2025.
