Racers Ride Long Ball Trio to Series Win Over UIC

MSU got homeruns from Garner, Vierling & Cunningham in the series wins over the Flames
The Murray State Baseball team won their Missouri Valley Conference series over the UIC Flames Sunday when they took game three of the weekend at Johnny Regan Field 11-9.
The Racers improved to 23-9 and 7-5 in The Valley as the series win pushed them into a share of third place with Southern Illinois and Indiana State.

The Racers saw starting pitcher Isaac Silva push his spring record to 5-1 with a hard-working outing of 5.1 innings where he gave five runs on four hits with five strikeouts.

Carson Garner, Will Vierling and Conner Cunningham all homered to power the MSU attack on a day when the Racers had 15 hits and scored runs in five of their eight times at bat. MSU scored runs in four-straight innings starting in the second inning.

- Carson Garner's homer today was his 10th of the season and he ranks seventh in the MVC.
- Jonathan Hogart didn't homer Sunday, but his 11 taters is tied for third in the MVC.
- Connor Cunningham's homerun was his second at MSU in his freshman season.
- Cunningham's first Racer homer was at Illinois State (3-28-25).
- Will Vierling's homer was his eighth of the season.
- Isaac Silva's 4.50 ERA is ninth in the MVC and in holding opponents to a .234 batting average, he is sixth in the MVC.
- Silva's five wins is tied for second in the MVC, only one behind the six wins by SIU's Alec Nigut.
- Even with a rare hitless day, Dustin Mercer is still hitting .387 this spring, which is third in the MVC.
- Freshman Dom Decker is third in the MVC with a batting average of .360.
- The Racers have won eight of their last nine games.
- They host Southeast Missouri State Tuesday at JRF in a 5 p.m. first pitch, before playing at Valparaiso this weekend.
- Starting with the series at Valpo, the Racers begin an eight-game road swing that also includes games at North Alabama (April 22), Indiana State (April 25-27) and SEMO (April 29).
- The Racers return home (May 2-4) to host Southern Illinois on MSU Baseball Alumni Weekend.
- Festivities include honoring new MSU Hall of Famer, Daniel Calhoun, the 1975 NCAA Team and Johnny Reagan Day.
