Miller-led Racers coming off second-place finish in the MVC Tournament
Coming off one of the best conference tournament finishes in the history of the program, Murray State men's golf head coach Jacob Miller has received a contract extension through 2029, it was announced on Friday afternoon.
Coach Miller led the Murray State men's golf program to a second-place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference, its best MVC tournament finish in school history, and posted the second-lowest season average in school history.
"We are thrilled with the trajectory of our men's golf program under the guidance of Coach Miller, and we are excited that he will continue to lead the team into the future" Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "The team had significant run in the MVC Tournament and we were thrilled that Trey Wall was able to represent the program at the NCAA Tournament. We are confident that Coach Miller will continue to lead the team to success into the future."
Success followed the team all season, as the Racers recorded a first-place finish in its home tournament, The Buddy, at Miller Memorial Golf Course. In total, the team finished with five, top-5 finishes this season.
"Over the last couple of years, Murray has become home for my family and I. We love it here. The community, the support, and the program," Miller said. "The men have done a great job improving nationally and in the MVC every single season. Each class has left this program better than they found it, and that's what's most important. I cannot thank Director of Athletics Nico Yantko, Dr. Bob Jackson and our Board of Regents enough for the trust he has in me to lead this program and to extend my contract through 2029. It is something I do not take lightly. Murray is where my wife and I started a family and we love this town. As our team always says, 'The ship has been turned around. Let's keep steering it in the right direction, full steam ahead!'"
Coach Miller guided freshman Trey Wall to the MVC Individual Championship, earning him a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Wall finished the season as the MVC Freshman of the Year and was also named First Team All-Conference.
There has been a steady flow of investments to aid in the trajectory of the golf program. Miller Memorial Golf Course received a significant upgrade with brand new bunkers and other critical landscaping needs.
In the coming months, the golf team spaces at their home course will receive a significant upgrade, including updates to the team locker room and branding enhancements throughout the clubhouse at Miller Memorial.
These critical resources could not have been possible without the private support of so many incredible investors, who have bought in to the department's shared vision for excellence.
