Both programs to benefit from much-needed updates to home of Racer Golf
Miller Memorial Golf Course has received another critical round of updates and enhancements that will continue to elevate the facility for the Murray State Men's and Women's Golf programs, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
This marks the second significant upgrade to the home of Racer Golf after the department made a six-figure investment into the bunkers throughout the course last year.
"These upgrades we are doing to our lounge and locker rooms at Miller Memorial will be a huge game changer for recruiting and for our players," men's golf head coach Jacob Miller said. "We are very blessed to have our own spaces at our university course, and thanks to the generous support from the Griffin and Shirley families, and our administration, we are able to update these spaces and give our student-athletes a great deal of pride when we get to the course every single day. These modern spaces will be great for meetings, homework, hanging out, or anything else our teams may need. We can't thank them enough for their support."
"We could not be more excited and thankful to be updating our players' lounge and locker rooms at the home of Racer Golf, Miller Memorial Golf Course," women's golf head coach Phillip Nelson said. "The Griffin and Shirley families jumped on this vision with our administration and helped us see it through. This will allow us to recruit at a higher level, and will also help us develop community at a higher level within our programs. Not to mention, the updated look will generate a great source of Racer Pride every time we walk into these rooms. We cannot thank everyone involved in this project enough. It takes a village, and we have a great one."
The new wave of enhancements will primarily impact the student-athlete lounge and locker rooms at the course. These spaces will receive upgrades to branding and the lockers within the space, while new flooring will be laid down throughout the space.
Additionally, new furniture will finish out the team areas to add additional branding and comfort for the student-athletes.
"We are committed to investing in championship resources and making each of our facilities recruit ready, and these upgrades will achieve both of these goals for our golf programs," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "Miller Memorial Golf Course is a huge asset for our programs, and we are thrilled for this project to get underway later this summer."
The Racer Club plays a crucial role in helping support student-athlete scholarships, general operating budget, and facility enhancements. Investors play a critical role in funding the student-athlete experience and the competitive success of Murray State Athletics programs and student-athletes.
