Exceptional Student-Athlete Insurance Program
Disability insurance through the NCAA is available to student-athletes who realistically anticipate receiving a significant amount of money as professional athletes because of their present market value as future professionals. Market value is based on an objective professional evaluation. These coverage limits are for the NCAA program only.
Football: Players projected to be picked in the first three rounds of the NFL draft. ($3.0 million max)
Men's Basketball: Players projected to be picked in the first round of the NBA draft. ($4.4 million max)
Women's Basketball: Players projected to be picked in the first round of the WNBA draft. ($250,000 max)
Baseball: Players projected to be picked in the first round of the MLB draft. ($1.5 million max)
Men's Ice Hockey: Players projected to be picked in the first three rounds of the NHL. ($1.2 million max)
For example, a $1 million policy could vary from $3,500 to $14,000 annually. Under the NCAA program, the maximum premium for a defensive football player is $29,250 and the maximum for offensive players is $23,400.

The NCAA sponsors the “Exceptional Student-Athlete Disability Insurance Program;” which includes as a benefit to the student-athlete the automatic securing of a loan if the student-athlete’s rating qualifies him for coverage.
Catastrophic Injury Insurance Program
The NCAA also sponsors a Catastrophic Injury Insurance Program which covers the student-athlete who is catastrophically injured while participating in a covered intercollegiate athletic activity. The policy has a $90,000 deductible and provides benefits in excess of any other valid and collectible insurance. See the benefit summary for program information by clicking here.
