Mark Allen Bounds III enters his first season as an assistant coach at Murray State. He will assist with the pitchers and field maintenance, while also placing players for summer ball.
In the summer, Bounds will serve as the head coach of the Hoptown Hoppers of the Ohio Valley League summer team.
Bounds joins the Breds after playing the previous two seasons at Austin Peay. In his two seasons, the Governors captured back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference championships. APSU advanced to the regional final in 2012.
Bounds made 11 appearances on the mound over his two seasons. He made his first career start against Tennessee in 2012. As a junior, he posted a 1-0 record in nine appearances. He earned the victory by throwing two shutout innings against Illinois State.
Prior to his time with the Govs, Bounds spent two seasons at Milligan College. He tossed 11.1 innings in his sophomore season. As a freshman, he helped the Buffaloes to a school record 40 victories.
In the summer of 2010, Bounds was selected as a Prospect League All-Star while playing for the Slippery Rock Sliders.
Bounds began his collegiate career at Walters State Community College where he helped the Senators to a 55-9 record and the 2008 NJCAA World Series.
The Strawberry Plains, Tenn., native played his prep ball at Carter High School. He was a three-sport standout for the Hornets as he lettered four years in baseball, three years in basketball and three years in football.
Bounds earned all-district honors in baseball as a junior and senior. In his senior season, he hit .446 with five home runs and 23 RBIs. He also went 7-2 with a 1.83 ERA, striking out 105 in 57.1 innings. On the gridiron, Bounds was named the 3A Region 1 Player of the Year as a quarterback.
Bounds gained valuable coaching experience in the summer of 2012 as he served as the pitching coach for the Casper Cutthroats of the Mountain Collegiate Baseball League.
Bounds graduated from APSU in May, 2012, with a degree in health and human performance-physical education.
