Connie Keasling is in the 16th season of her second stint as head coach of the MSU women's tennis team, and her 19th overall at Murray State.
To say that Keasling’s program is a consistent performer in the Ohio Valley Conference is an understatement. Under Keasling’s leadership, the Racer program has won 75 percent of their matches against OVC teams and over 60 percent of all their matches.
In addition, MSU has won five Ohio Valley Conference Championships and made four appearances in the NCAA Tournament under Keasling.
In fact, in the last 11 seasons Murray State has finished in the top three of the OVC nine times, including three straight OVC Championships from 2001 through 2003.
Her 280-171 all-time match record is first among MSU coaches.
In her first tenure at Murray State, from 1984 to 1987, Keasling posted an impressive 56-37 (.602) record, leading the Racers to the 1987 OVC Championship and earning the 1987 OVC Coach of the Year honor.
She also won coach of the year honors in 1998, 2001, 2003 and 2004.
A 1980 graduate of East Tennessee State University, Keasling earned her bachelor's degree in physical education. While at ETSU, she was a four-year letterwinner in tennis and a two-time letterwinner in basketball. She advanced to the NCAA Region II tennis tournament as a collegiate senior.
After ETSU, Keasling went to Eastern Kentucky University, where she earned her master's degree in physical education. At EKU, she also served as the graduate assistant tennis coach and volunteer assistant women's basketball coach.
After earning her master’s degree, Keasling served as the head coach of the women’s basketball and tennis teams at Midway College from 1981 to 1984. She led the school’s women’s basketball team to two AIAW D-III Kentucky Small College Basketball Championships and two Southeast Regional tournament appearances.
Following her first stint as head coach at Murray State, the Greeneville, Tenn., native led the women’s basketball program at Tennessee High School in Bristol, Tenn., for five seasons.
