Playing Career
Before MSU
Personal
- Coach Milkman started the Murray State program in the 1993-94 school year.
- The 2021-22Â season will be her 29th at MSU.
- She is the only coach the program has ever had.
- Her career has spanned from being an excellent player to a championship coach.
- Along the way, she has coached championship-level student-athletes that have produced12Â Ohio Valley Championships including their latest title in 2019.
- MSU won the OVC title The Shoals GC in Muscle Shoals, Alabama in 2019, which marked the third time that MSU has won three in a row in Coach Milkman's tenure.
- She was a fantastic leader to keep the program headed in the right direction as the spring and fall portion of the schedule in 2020 was canceled because of the pandemic.Â
- In the spring of 2021, the Racers saw Payton Carter and Raeysha Surendran earn All-OVC and Briana McMinn named to the All-OVC Newcomer Team.
- Milkman has 12 OVC Coach of the Year honors to go with the 12 team titles. She is the all-time leader in OVC Championships at Murray State.
- The Racers' 2019 title led to their six NCAA Regional appearance.
- In 2019, the Racers competed at the Auburn Regional in Opelika, Alabama. Additionally, MSU competed in NCAA competition in Madison, Wisc. (2018), Lubbock, Texas (2017), Tallahassee, Florida (2014), Columbus, Indiana (2010) and Columbus, Ohio (2009).
- Anna Moore is Milkman's latest OVC Tournament champion having won in 2019, after Moa Folke was champion in 2016 and 2017. Other MSU winners have been Jenny Daag (1998 & 1999), Cuyler Hedley (2002), Lee-Anne Pace (2003), Nikki Orazine (2004) and Delaney Howson (2014).Â
- During her tenure at MSU, Milkman has coached 53 All-OVC Players and a conference-leading 10 OVC Players of the Year. Other Racers to win the OVC Player of the Year award include: Jenny Daag (1998 & 1999), Cuyler Hedley (2003), Lee Anne Pace (2004), Nikki Orazine (2004 & 2005), Delaney Howson (2014) and Moa Folke (2017).
- Milkman has eight former players that have competed in the profession ranks.
- Milkman's team has won four OVC Academic Achievement Awards in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
- Also serving for many years as the Murray State Senior Woman Administrator, she also did the department a great service by taking on the job of Interim Athletics Director from July 2018 through February 2019.
- Milkman has also been involved at the NCAA level in shaping women's golf on a national scale. She served a four-year term (2009-12) on the NCAA Women’s Golf Committee including two years as chair.
Playing Career
- She played at Alabama and was part of an outstanding squad that finished ninth in the 1987 NCAA Championship.
Before MSU
- After her playing days she served as a student assistant coach for the Crimson Tide
- She served as an assistant golf professional at Temple Hills Country Club in Franklin, Tennessee.
- Earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Alabama in 1987.
- Earned a master’s of business administration degree from Murray State in 1991.
Personal
- A native of Murray, Velvet is married to Martin Milkman, an economics professor at MSU.
