MSU Athletics Facilities Virtual Tour
The Frances E. Miller Memorial Golf Course has served as the home of Murray State Golf since 1983. Designed by Jack Kidwell and Mike Hurdzan of Columbus, Ohio, the course is located just six miles from the Murray State campus. Land for the facility was donated by L.D. Miller, a 1937 MSU graduate, who named it in memory of his late wife, and the course is primarily for MSU students, faculty, and staff. Former MSU player Will Snodgrass serves as the greens superintendent and general manager of the facility.
Upon its opening, Miller Memorial was recognized as one of the 130 best public layouts in the United States by USA Today, and in 2006, it was named one of the "Best Places to Play" by Golf Digest. The course has hosted numerous notable tournaments, including the 1987 Ohio Valley Conference men's championship, the 1995 and 1999 OVC women's championships, and the 2007 Kentucky State Women's Amateur, as well as several KGA/PGA Junior championships and KHSAA Region-I Championships.
Playing 6,592 yards from the back tees, the par-71 layout features two distinct nines that require a wide array of shot-making alongside small, subtly undulated greens. The outward nine is set on hilly terrain with tree-lined fairways, while the inward half rewards length and accurate long iron play. In 2011, the Racers added a new practice area featuring bunkers and space to practice shots up to 50 yards.
Today, MSU Golf enjoys a clubhouse complete with locker rooms for both the men's and women's teams, a lounge area with a large flat-screen TV, a fully stocked pro shop, a snack bar, and a convenient picnic pavilion.
