Frances E. Miller Memorial Golf Course History & Notes

Miller Memorial has been the home to Murray State Golf since 1983.
Designed by Jack Kidwell and Mike Hurdzan of Columbus, Ohio, the course is located just six miles from the Murray State campus.
Land for the course was donated by L.D. Miller, a 1937 MSU graduate. The course is named for his late wife. The golf course is primarily for MSU students, faculty and staff.
Former MSU player Will Snodgrass is the greens superintendent and general manager of the facility.
Upon its opening, Miller Memorial was named one of the best public 130 layouts in the United States by USA Today.
In 2006, Miller Memorial was named one of the "Best Places to Play" by Golf Digest.
The course hosted the 2007 Kentucky State Women's Amateur.
The 1987 Ohio Valley Conference men's championship was hosted here.
The OVC women's championship were played at Miller Memorial in 1995 and 1999.
Miller Memorial has also hosted several KGA/PGA Junior championships and KHSAA Region-I Championships.
The course plays 6,592 yards from the back tees.
The par-71 layout has two distinct nines which require a wide array of shot-making. Miller is home to small and subtly undulated greens.
The outward nine is set on hilly terrain with tree lined fairways, while the inward half rewards length and accurate long iron play.
In 2011, the Racers began using a new practice area that features bunkers and enough area to practice shots of up to 50 yards.
MSU Golf enjoys a great clubhouse that showcases locker rooms for both the men's and women's teams, plus a lounge area including a large flat screen TV.
The Miller clubhouse has a fully stocked pro-shop and snack bar and a convenient picnic pavilion.
