Murray State University Athletics
Racer Arena opened in 1954 and has a capacity of 5,500. The historic facility served as the home of Murray State basketball from 1954-98 before becoming the home of Murray State volleyball in 1998. Today, Racer Arena is the nation's second-largest volleyball-only facility among NCAA Division I schools.
The facility received a new wooden playing floor in 2009, replacing the SportCourt surface that had been used since 2002. Racer Arena underwent additional renovations before the 2011 season that included a new coat of paint and banners honoring current seniors and some of the best players in program history.
Racer Arena also features individualized locker areas with nameplates and cushioned chairs. The facility includes a volleyball ready room with couches, chairs and hardwood floors for pre-practice and pre-match meetings, as well as a large-screen TV for reviewing matches and preparation film.
