Bobby Montgomery – Tennis, 1982-1986
One of the top men’s tennis team players in MSU history. Bobby was part of former Head Coach Bennie Purcell’s dominant run in the 1980s. He led the Racers to 4 straight OVC Championships during his tenure from 1982-1986. In 1983, he was named OVC Player of the Year. His record of 135-44 is the 3rd best all-time at MSU. A native of Henderson, KY, he graduated from MSU in 1985 with a BS degree in business finance. He currently serves as the director of tennis at Glenmore Country Club in Charlottesville, VA.
Set Ohio Valley Conference and MSU records with seven conference singles and doubles championships. Won OVC singles championships at No. 5 (1982), No. 3 (1983) and No. 1 (1984). Was a four time OVC doubles champion at No. 1 (1984 with Barry Thomas) and No. 2 (1982-1983 with Mats Ljungman and 1985 with John Brunner). Was 1984 OVC Player of the Year. Compiled a 135-44 career singles record and stands third all-time at MSU in singles wins. Was a member of four OVC championship teams.
