Racers Earn Third Straight Tie Despite Schaller's First Goal Of 2003

MSU (3-1-3) trailed early on as IPFW's Alyssa Bailey gave the Mastodons (2-3-1) a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute of action.
The Racers went into the halftime break trailing by the one goal margin after struggling to get anything going during the first 45 minutes.
Schaller, a native of St. Louis, Mo., finally got MSU on the scoreboard in the 80th minute as she scored from 12 yards out following a deflection in the box.
The Racers battled through the two overtimes and had several scoring opportunities down the stretch, including a shot by sophomore Audrey Cooke which bounced off the cross bar in the final seconds, but MSU could not put an end to the streak of ties.
"This game was a like a replay of our last two games," said MSU fourth-year head coach Mike Minielli. "We played pretty poor in the first half, and we had no energy. In the second half, we got all over (IPFW) and we had our chances to win the game, but we just couldn't get over the hump."
MSU earned a pair of ties against Arkansas-Little Rock (3-3) and Southeastern Louisiana (2-2) during last week's Skyhawk Invitational in Martin, Tenn.
Up next, the Racers will take to the road to play the reigning Big 12 Tournament champion Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb. The Cornhuskers advanced to the Sweet 16 in last year's NCAA Tournament.
