Robertson, returning to the field after recovering from a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in the spring, scored on a 22-foot floater over IUPUI goalkeeper Jessie Mann in the 62nd minute to give the Racers a 1-0 lead.
Robertson, a native of Lexington, Ky., was an All-OVC Second Team selection in 2002 after transferring to MSU from the University of Colorado following the 2001 season.
The Racers put the game away in the 72nd minute as junior forward Jackie Thomas scored her third goal of the season on a 2-foot header set up by a perfect corner kick from freshman midfielder Laura Oppegard.
Senior goalkeeper Karen Fitzharris improved to 2-0 on the season while facing only one shot on goal as the Racer defense limited the Jaguars (0-2) chances throughout.
"Our offense was just awful today, but the defense did a great job and we found a way to win another one," said fourth-year head coach Mike Minielli. "We were just sloppy with our passing and missed some of our targets, but Kristin (Robertson) gave us a nice lift near the end of the first half.
"We really hadn't planned on playing her that much, but we decided to leave her out there in the second half and she got us that first goal, which was big."
MSU's 3-0 start matches last year's start through three games as the best opening in the program's short history, now in just its fourth varsity season.
The Racers will take to the road to play regional rival Western Kentucky Sunday at 7 p.m. in Bowling Green, Ky.
