Remington, Petty selected as top OVC player, freshman

Senior guard Rebecca Remington was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, while freshman guard Shaleea Petty was named OVC Freshman of the Week.
Remington, a native of Scandinavia, Wis., tied a career-high with 24 points against Northern Iowa on Tuesday before setting a new career-high with 29 points in Murray State's 87-76 win at Ball State on Sunday. She shot 56.8 percent from the field last week, averaging 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. She also tied a career-high with six assists at Ball State.
Petty, a native of Hopkinsville, Ky., averaged 15 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in her two games last week. She put in 18 points against Northern Iowa and 12 at Ball State, pushing her season average to 10 points per game. She had a game-high three steals at Ball State and a team-high three assists against Northern Iowa.
Remington now leads the conference in scoring with 23.0 points per game and is tied for the lead in three-point shooting, hitting 50.0 percent of her shots (7-for-14). She also is third in steals at 3.25 per game, tied for eighth with 1.75 three-point field goals per game, tied for ninth in the OVC in assists (3.25 per game) and is ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.08).
Petty is tied for fifth in three-point shooting at 44.4 percent.
The honors are the first weekly conference honors of the season for Murray State.
Other Lady Racers ranked among the OVC's best include Kaleena Miller, tied for seventh with 6.2 rebounds per game and fifth with 4.50 defensive rebounds per contest, and Ashley Hayes, tied for third with 2.0 three-point field goals per game and fourth with 5.0 defensive rebounds per game.
