Junior guard Rebecca Remington was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Second Team, marking the second straight year for a Lady Racer to receive such recognition.
Beth Schnakenberg became the first Lady Racer named to an Academic All-District Team last season, earning Second Team honors.
Remington, a native of Scandinavia, Wis., has earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) in each of her five semesters thus far. She earned the Ohio Valley Conference Medal of Honor in her freshman and sophomore seasons for having the highest GPA in her sport in the conference.
Remington was one of only three OVC players to receive Academic All-District recognition this season. Eastern Illinois's Pam O'Connor earned District V First Team honors, while Austin Peay's Gerlonda Hardin was named to the District IV Third Team.
Remington was the only player from a Kentucky Division I university to receive Academic All-District recognition.
Remington picked up her first career double-double on Tuesday night at Tennessee-Martin, scoring 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, and tied career-highs with four assists and three steals.
Thus far this season, going into tonight's contest against Tennessee State, she is third on the team in scoring at 9.7 points per game and fourth on the team with 3.3 rebounds per game. Always a stellar free-throw shooter, she has made 86.3 percent of her tries from the line, and is shooting just under 40 percent from the field, with a 36.7-percent success rate from three-point range.
The Academic All-District IV Team is part of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American program. Those named to each of the eight districts' first teams are placed on the national CoSIDA Academic All-American ballot. District IV is comprised of NCAA Division I universities in Kentucky, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
To qualify for Academic All-American, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore starter or significant reserve on her team with a 3.20 cumulative GPA. Other Lady Racers who qualified this season were senior guard Jenny Bowden, junior forward Kaleena Miller and sophomore center Lori Trumblee.
