Seven current and former Murray State women's golfers are set to compete at this week's 78th Annual Women's Kentucky State Amateur Golf Championship at Lafayette Golf Club in Falls of Rough, Ky.
The field of golfers will include 2004 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year Nikki Orazine, a senior-to-be from Paducah, Ky. Orazine, who reached the semifinals of last year's state amateur tournament, won the OVC individual title while leading the Lady Racers to a third straight team title in April.
The event begins today with an 18-hole qualifying round and will continue with the first round of match play on Tuesday. The second round is set for Wednesday, followed by the third round and semifinals on Thursday and the finals on Friday.
Christi Baron, a native of Louisville who finished her first season at MSU with a ninth-place individual finish at the OVC Championship, will be competing along with junior April Steenbergen (Russellville, Ky.) and sophomore Lauren Hughes (Mayfield, Ky.).
Former MSU standouts Jessica (Widman) Grace and Stephanie Baskey are set to compete along with Lady Racer prep signee Lauren Scholl of Somerset, Ky.
Grace advanced to the championship match of last year's tournament after defeating Orazine in the semifinals. Grace, Orazine, Baskey also competed in last year's event.
