Reedy goal is MSU's first of season, but Racers fall at Southwest Missouri

Senior forward Theresa Reedy booted in a goal in the ninth minute of Murray State's game at Southwest Missouri State this afternoon for the team's first goal of the season, but it wasn't enough against a talented Bears team, as MSU fell 6-1.

Although Reedy's score came early in the game, it was preceded by back-to-back goals by SMSU's Kate Blair in the fifth and seventh minutes.

Reedy's goal closed the gap to 2-1, but an own goal in the 32nd minute gave Southwest Missouri a 3-1 lead at halftime. The Bears (1-0-0) scored three unanswered goals in the second half.

Reedy and freshman forward Kara Carlile led Murray State (0-2-0) with two shots on goal each. Senior midfielder Jamie Roche had a game-high four shots. Reedy had three and Carlile had two. Sophomore forward Lacey Latimer and junior midfielder Lisa Pfeiffer each had one shot. Roche, Latimer and Pfeiffer each had a shot on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Heather Jones (0-1-0) allowed five goals and had six saves in just over 71 minutes of play. Sophomore Annie Fortier allowed one goal and had two saves in just under 19 minutes.

Murray State has a week away from competition, but resumes play at home on Sunday against Valparaiso. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
